I wanted to use today to talk about my post from last week on the postmodern church, but some good things are happening in our church right now…and it is dominating all my thoughts. So, if I could, I want to rap with you today. A bit unscripted. Here are just a few things that happened yesterday.

Right off the bat…yesterday morning started off pretty much insane…we are doing something simple, but it is making huge ripples in our church. We are serving coffee, gatorade, OJ, and other stuff to the high school kids from our neighborhood. At 6:30 in the morning, we stand out on the sidewalk and hand out all these goodies to the students walking to school. We are having a blast doing it and we are meeting so many people from our neighborhood.

Then, I had an impromptu meeting with John-Student Ministries Worship Leader, Scott- Worship and Arts leader, PJ- Exec Pastor…yesterday over some Cubans. (sandwiches or cigars I am not saying). Anyways, the meeting was super intense…not on the fighting level…but on the reality level. The only question we looked at…How are we doing when it comes to engaging people with the basic tenants of following Christ? Needless to say, those meetings always end up having some great merit down the road…

After that, PJ and I ended up doing an interview with the Tampa Tribune…let’s just say that PJ will no longer be in any of those interviews. :) I can’t even repeat some of the things he said on my blog. And, to make it worse, he SAID them to a REPORTER for a MAJOR PAPER. The day the article comes out is October 15th, and I’m scared!

Then last night, I work with our teenagers on Wednesday nights now. I am more involved with the college age kids called Ethos, but we also have our younger kids…Refuge…in our services as well. We worship together, split up, and then Ethos heads to a different part of the building for a more intense study. But, last night, we introduced communion to the kids. Because our church is so young, we haven’t really introduced some things that we would like to…just yet.

A small conversation happened on our leadership forums prior to actually doing communion. On the forums, one of our leaders commented on how to make communion understandable for a younger generation. I tossed the idea around for a bit, but after really praying about it…I felt impressed to slow down…just share the Word. We didn’t make it out of communion…kids were weeping, repenting of sin, brokeness, serving one another in communion. It was incredible.

We had a record attendance last night…but more importantly…it was meaningful. It meant something to everyone of the kids…something happened in the student ministries last night. God really moved.

Some great things are happening right now. Are you a part of it?
