Wow…I get this question all the time. We are seeing churches completely sell out to becoming culturally relevant…while…at the same time not compromising the Word. I understand that doing church like this offends some folks, but I have found that most people it offends…NEED to be offended…because they are more interested in preserving self righteousness than they are about reaching people. Paul addressed this issue here.
So, needless to say, I am pretty passionate about this issue so
…I have a few thoughts about this….
1. We can be relevant and reach people for Jesus Christ. It is possible to be creative without selling out what makes the Word powerful.
2. Why does the church insist on taking the most wonderful book ever and the most exciting news ever and make it the most boring thing that you could ever imagine? I’m talking absolutely want to pull your hair out boring!
3. Jesus was the most creative communicator that we have ever seen. He would use the “language of the day” to communicate truths. I think we all agree that He is worth patterning our ministries after…right?
4. If, you really look at the Gospels all of them were written to different groups of people for different types of purposes. They were written so that those who read them could grasp the word as it applies to them.
We need to learn as a church that it is our job to present the Gospel with power, life, love, and creativity…and it’s God’s job to present Himself to people that really need it.
