Religious folk annoy me!

So, a few weeks back Pastor John (what an awesome man of God) calls me and asks me if I recieved an e-mail that he had forwarded to me earlier in the day. I could tell by the way he sounded…I was not going to enjoy this e-mail. But, never one to run from a fight or anything that might be confrontational, I logged in to my account. Pastor John sat on the phone patiently waiting for me to read what had been sent to me.

We had a random guy in the city drive by our sign and ask….”If, your church signs says that No Perfect People are Allowed…I guess that means you won’t let Jesus in?” Now, heh…I have to admit…I was flippin out. I couldn’t believe my eyes to tell you the truth. We don’t let Jesus in the building because he is perfect and we are not? So, instead of responding to the guy (I wanted to so bad, but PJ kept me in check) I decided to push the gas and keep moving on.

I do want to share with you my heart for why our church has taken such a unique stand with our community.

First of all, Jesus isn’t here anymore.

Eph 1:19-21 says this:

9 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

And Colossians 3:1 says this
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Jesus Himself said in John 16:7-8
7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

My point is this…Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father, and according to Hebrews 7:25, is now making intercession for us as the ultimate high priest. He said, I have to go…I need to go…I must go…so that I can send my Holy Spirit to convict the world concerning sin. Now, if you are perfect you don’t need conviction because you have no sin…BUT…if you are imperfect, as we all are, then wouldn’t the best place for imperfect people to go would be where the Holy Spirit resides?

Secondly, Eph 4:11-12 says this:
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

If, we were perfect, once again, why would we need to be perfected? What would be the point?

The church is a place of perfecting those who are not perfect, and the last time I checked none of us are perfect!

Our churches have become a huge cess pool of judgement, negativity, and hopelessness…. without any real power of conviction or change. But, if we gather those who are imperfect then we desperately need the Holy Spirit all the more, so that He can bring about life change in people’s heart and spirit.

The next time Jesus comes back to this Earth it will be for His bride. Until then, our goal is to work on perfecting the saints and guess what….the saints aren’t perfect!
